While I didn’t follow the instructions step-by-step, it was useful for getting the required shape of the cloth. As you can see in this progress post, the shape is very similar to the shape shown in step 2 of the Instructable. For the inside of the brim, I used a couple layers of stiff pleather I had laying around sewn together (no way am I sealing cardboard into a hat). I also added a strip of elastic around the edge, as I made mine deliberately huge to match the character (and fit the wig).
I hope this helps :) If you have any follow-up questions, I’ll do what I can to answer.
So I wrote up a thing about how Korra attacking the judge was supremely disappointing… not because she was rash and/or headstrong, but because she had no reason to, and then her actions were magically justified.
I decided not to post it because getting passionate about anything on the internet can be a dangerous thing to do.
Man I pretty much vanished from tumblr for a while there. Nothing too big to talk about. Work as been crazy busy for the past few weeks, and it’s going to stay busy until the 10th.
Tonight I purchased the parts to build my own computer! Parts should be here before the 10th, but probably won’t work on building it until afterward. I plan on posting pics of the build if anyone is curious :)
Feels good to have those costumes done. It’s nice when months of work come together and there are no major SNAFUs :) However, like all costumes these have a list of things that need to be adjusted, fixed, and finished:
Uniform fit adjustments
Metal ranks need a different kind of fit that allows them to be flush to the uniform. They are currently mounted with a technique that lifts them off of the cloth and I’m not very pleased with the effect.
Sew edges of patches down.
Sew together Marcus’s belt/bandolier. The thing was safety pinned and fashion-taped together on my brother ^^;
Clean Spirit Gum off of Delenn’s purple dress. When I was reapplying the Spirit Gum to my mom’s head bone, I managed to spill some onto the purple dress (and a couple other places on my costume). Fortunately they are well below normal point of view, but they still stick out. It looks like isopropyl alcohol will work, but I’ve only tested on a swatch of fabric so far.
Reinforce Delenn’s belt broach. Still not stiff enough for comfort, but functioned well enough at the time of.
Reinforce the large stones on Delenn’s smaller broach. They’re probably okay, but I would like to make it more reliable.
Create Army of Light B5 belt buckles.
Dye the hair attached to Delenn’s head bone from a bit too blonde to brown. Easy to fix I think.
After I get these fixes done, I think I want to get a real photoshoot of us in costume. Better lighting, better backgrounds, and maybe get some adorable shots of my parents :)
I’ve been watching Warehouse 13 on Netflix while working on costumes for the past week or so. Partially because a good friend of mine recommended it, partially because of a few gifsets running around starring Myka and HG Wells, who both happen to be a very smart, very suave, very attractive women.
Out of curiosity I went to AO3 to see if I could find any Myka/Wells fics… turns out of the 987 Warehouse 13 stories posted, 584 are Myka/Wells.
By the way, if any WH13 femslash fans have any fic recommendations, link me?
Forgive the lack of photos for my progress this weekend. Not much has changed at a glance, but I have been getting fitting work done on Delenn. We also went to a beading store to start getting supplies for the jewelry. Tomorrow after work I’m going to another bead store to hopefully find some more.
I also got my dad into his jacket for a fit… and of course it was freaking huge on him. Patterns seem very rarely to fit well. I’m going to have to take off the sleeves and remove material before attempting to fit it on him again. Thankfully the Army of Light uniform doesn’t require a close fit like Shepard’s jacket.
you saying civ 5 mp is boring, or your coworker was boring?
Civ V. It’s not really my kind of game. I find the pace too slow while the controls and mechanics feel clunky and overwrought. Part of that may be my newness to the game, but there were no game elements that stuck with me enough to make it worth learning.
I had heard a lot good about the game, and after giving it a try came to the conclusion that it isn’t for me.
Tonight I spent the evening with my parents, and while there I was able to fit mom’s outfit. On one hand I’m really happy with the progress and want to show a couple pictures from today, but on the other I feel weird posting pictures of someone other than myself on this blog. I know what I’m comfortable leaving to the public, but I’m not sure about her.
I’ll talk to her in the morning, and if she’s okay with it, I’ll post the fitting pictures tomorrow :)
I think we can all agree that this fandom is often given to making you weep like a child. That seems to be the entire purpose of season 5, and large swaths elsewhere. It takes us to dark places: we see characters fall, and sometimes never get the chance to rise again. We see people up against odds they will never beat, fighting against the inevitable. It’s a classic tragedy of a show, its hope constantly countered with the sorrow.
So this post says, ‘Screw that!’ to all the sadness. Behold! All happy pictures and gifs, all the time. Because everything in B5 fandom right for this second is happy and absolutely nothing hurts.
Now, I’m hoping you’re saying:
If so, let’s get on with the happiest gif and pic-set I could make!
This morning I said goodbye to Bailey. When her sister passed, I gave Bailey more free reign of floor space, and boy did she use it! Exploring everywhere she could get to - on my shelves, in my shoes, particularly into the mess of my closet - I always had to keep an eye on her when she was out. She was always sweet to handle and never one to say no to a treat, as much as I wanted to cuddle with her, sitting still was never really her thing :)
Now, for the first time in two and a half years, I came home to an empty cage. I had to stop myself from saying, “Hello!” for there was no creature there to hear it. My heart is heavy, but I feel my life has been made richer by having these two girls in my life.
